In our series of
self-publishing
interviews, we are talking today to Dr. Allen Lycka who is the co-author of The Secrets of Living a Fantastic Life,
a self-help book.
Each author suffered near-death experiences and sought renewal through the wisdom of human virtues that refocused them on a life of richness, appreciation, joy and service.
Offered in the format of an enchanting and charming dialogue between the two authors, the book also includes their chronicles of pain and triumph, allegories and stories, along with inspirational and insightful quotes. The exploration of each of the 13 Golden Pearls creates a necklace of self-empowerment that will enhance anyone’s life.
The Golden Pearls shared offer a roadmap for living a life that is rich in love, achievement, appreciation, joy and service. They offer strength, comfort and encouragement.
The authors are on a mission to transform lives. Dr. Allen Lycka is now a full-time speaker, author and transformational leader and Harriet Tinka coaches young women to fully embrace who they are through her Empower Me programs.
You self-published your latest book, The Secrets To Living A Fantastic Life…Two Survivors Reveal the 13 Golden Pearls They’ve Discovered . Would you please tell us why you chose the self-publishing route?
There are two routes for publishing. I have been schooled by Steve Harrison and find traditional publishing too slow and too cumbersome.
Take us through the process. You had an idea for your book, you wrote it, then you decided to find a publisher. What were your experiences with that? Or did you decide to self-publish without looking any farther?
AFTER LOOKING AT A FEW PUBLISHERS, I DID NOT THINK THIS WOULD WORK FOR ME.
What different online stores carry your book?
AMAZON
Authors who go the traditional route have an edge over self-published authors in regards to distribution to bookstores. How did you handle that as a self-published author?
I am working with a second printer to get them into other stores.
On the other hand, self-published authors have the edge over traditional books in the regards that the author has all the control. I’d like to begin with your cover. Did you make it or did you have someone else design it? If you had someone else, can you tell us who it is?
Harriet, my co-publisher, and I had an idea and a graphic designer put it together.
Control, time
What was the hardest challenge for you to self-publish your book?
Commitment
They say self-publishers are control freaks. Do you think there is a lot of truth in that?
Probably true.
Did you get someone to format your book for you or did you do that?
Someone must format it. It’s very complicated
What steps are you taking to promote it?
Blogs, book clubs, book of the day, listed
Do you have any advice you’d like to share with other self-published authors?
Keep going!!!!
